About Us

Julie Koidin, flutist and tanguera (tango dancer) founded Tiempo Tango in Chicago to accompany the milongas (tango dance parties) that are a frequent part of Chicago's tango night life.   Tiempo Tango was the first and only live music group for tango dancers in the Chicago area.

In her attempt to be as authentic as possible in the interpretation of the music, Julie traveled to Buenos Aires on several occasions to study with musicians, take dance lessons, and research musical arrangements to take back to Chicago.   As a result, Tiempo Tango has a rich assortment of tango classics to perform for your event.

As a flutist, Julie is an active concert artist and teacher both in the U.S. and Brazil.   She is a 7-time Fulbright Fellow (Brazil - 2 grants; Ecuador; New Zealand; Norway; Serbia; and Sweden) and frequently performs and teaches in Brazil.  For more information on Julie's background, please visit her website: www.juliekoidin.com.

Julie has studied tango dancing since 1999.  Her principle teacher was Marcelo Martins (Rio de Janeiro); and in Chicago her main teachers were Fred Romero; Valentina Cisar; Andrea Missé and Leandro Palou.
